I woke up this morning to the sound of my roommate getting out of the loft, looking out the window and saying, "What the hell? You have to be kidding me!"
This, of course, prompted me to put my glasses on and see the full-blown blizzard...
Just an hour later, this was the view from my window... on April 11th... this is like some kind of sick April fool's joke...

See, monday night when it snowed I actually enjoyed it. It was big snowflakes that melted as soon as the reached the ground. It was relatively warm, the sun was down, and the snowfall was contrasted by the streetlights. It was picturesque.
This snow, on the other hand, is just plain cruel. Cold, wet, blizzard conditions on a gray spring day just as I'm preparing to walk to class. Mother Nature is a bitch.
So apparently I forgot my dad's birthday. I called home to tell my mom I'd be in town over the weekend to do some errands and she asked me if I wanted to talk to my dad and wish him happy birthday. I was just like, "umm..... it's his birthday?"
Yeah, it's a bit of a faux pas, but I still got to wish him happy birthday, so it's not too bad.
Ok, so I've randomly decided that today is fortune cookie day!
Today's the day I go through a bunch of random and trivial fortunes from the last year and kill time by reflecting upon them.
Jones Soda bottle cap bought at the MSU union in the first couple of weeks of school:
"Your current plans will succeed"
Well, when I got this fortune I thought it was really funny because it seemed so appropriate. I did indeed have some plans at the time. In fact, my plans were being enacted as I got this fortune. Well, those plans fizzled, so I guess this fortune really screwed the pooch. Perhaps the plans I've just recently made will succeed instead. My new plans are much more hazy and it'll be hard to tell if when or if they succeed.
Rice Kitchen fortune cookie:
"Despair is criminal"
Ummm..... ok? I guess that makes me a chronic criminal. I guess I should just be locked up and given the death sentence now. I suppose I can see what they're getting at: pessimism is useless and counter-productive, be optimistic, there's always another chance, etc. But still, this is just phrased in such a stupid way.
Jones Soda bottle cap:
"A balance is needed between home and business"
I guess it's good advice, but it's not something I usually have too much trouble with. Not to mention the fact that to apply to me it has to be school and not business.
Jones Soda bottle cap:
"Your ability to listen makes you wise"
Well, I'll agree with this one, but again it's far too general. Just because you're able to listen doesn't mean you know which parts need to be heard, or what to do about it. Sure, sometimes listening is all it takes, but not always. Granted, though, that it's still saying something I agree with, I'll give this one props.
Jones Soda bottle cap:
"Your silence at this time is important"
I'm not absolutely sure when I got this one or what was going on in my life when I did, but if I remember correctly then this one was absolutely correct. Sometimes the best thing to do is to just shut your mouth and let this simmer for a bit. In fact, it just might be time for a little more silence, if only for me to see what happens and where I stand. Props on this one.
Rice Kitchen fortune cookie from a couple of weeks ago:
"We are made to persist. That's how we find out who we are."
I really like this one. This one is absolutely true, and as my freshman year draws to a close I can only look back at everything that's happened over the course of the year and say that it is indeed by persisting through life's hardships that we find out more about ourselves. It's not so much character building as character discovering. Props on this one.
Well, those are all the fortune cookie slips and jones soda caps I have sitting in my desk. I can't recall some of the ones I threw away, but I think I threw away a few good onesI think I can throw them away now and start collecting some new ones. Let's hope for some interesting fortunes.

I like the fortune cookie/soda cap post. Do you find yourself keeping the ones you especially like, or throwing them away, as well?
